Dalits resort to dharna against police action
Kadapa, May 3 (UNI) Protesting against the police action on Dalits during the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD)-sponsored Dalit Govinda programme, held to mark the 600th Annamacharya Jayanthi yesterday at Tallapaka in the district, activists of CPI(M), CPI and Dalit Sangam today staged a dharna in front of the collectorate.
About 2,000 Dalit activists, led by Rajampet MP Ramacharaiah (TDP), garlanded a statue of Baba Saheb B R Ambedkar and took out a massive procession from the RTC bus stand to collectorate.
They demanded the suspension of district Superintendent of Police Naga, allegedly responsible for the beating up of Dalits by police.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the district revenue officer.
