City mourns death of local youth in Iraq bomb explosion

Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, May 3 (UNI) A pall of gloom descended over the city with the news of death of a 23-year-old youth, hailing from this city, in a bomb explosion in Iraq last night.

The family of P Ganesan, who was working as a server in the Iraq Military Camp, had received a call from one of his colleagues stating that Ganesan was among the four persons killed in a bomb explosion last night.

Ganesan's father K Perumal (43) told UNI that the family was informed about the incident this morning over telephone. But they were unable to establish contact with the army camp in Iraq to avail more information.

People gathered in large numbers to console Ganesan's mother P Indirani (40), who was shatterred by the tragic incident.

Hailing from a poor and illiterate family, Ganesan left for Iraq 11 months ago to work as a labourer in a private company. Later, he joined the army camp at an undisclosed location as a server and used to send his monthly earnings through a bank.

Meanwhile, Tiruchirapalli City Corporation Mayor Sarubala Thondaiman and senior police officials visited the family and assured them of all possible help.

The family had decided to submit a memorandum to District Collector Ashish Vachchani, seeking government's help to bring his body back here for funeral.
