Cabinet committee reviews rising prices, procurement
New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) The rising prices and the ongoing procurement came up for an indepth review today at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Prices (CCP).
The Ministers on the CCP exchanged ''ideas and information'' on checking the inflation and the market situation, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.
The present procurement situation and the arrival of fresh crops at the mandis were discussed, though there was no specific agenda for the meeting, he said.
Asked whether the government was satisfied with the procurement level, he said Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar informed the meeting that 85-90 per cent of commodities arriving in the wholesale market was being procured by the Food Corporation of India (FCI), the official agency for the purpose.
According to latest official figures, inflation remained at a high 6.09 per cent for the week ended April 14.
