Mumbai, May 2 (UNI) Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today said talks with Gujarat Government for supply of gas to the Ratnagiri Gas and Power Project Ltd (RGPPL) had failed but efforts were on to resolve the problem.

The RGPPL is currently producing 750 mw from two units on naptha, which is very costly. The remaining 1400 mw was to be generated by gas, to be supplied by Gujarat from Dahej.

Maharashtra energy minister Dilip Valse Patil, earlier this week, had said the laying of 12 km section of gas pipeline near Surat in Gujarat has been held up for want of permission from Gujarat government and this would delay the commissioning of RGPPL.

Mr Shinde said as per the timeframe, the pipeline should have been completed by March 31 so that Maharashtra would have got 1400 MW from block two and three of the power project but since the pipeline work was held up by Gujarat government the starting of block, two, three and one was delayed. It otherwise would have generated 2100 MW till December this year.

He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has convened a meeting of Chief Ministers from all states in the last week of May to address the power crisis in the country.
