SC refuses to vacate stay in Icecream-parlour sex-scandal case
New Delhi, May 2 (UNI) The Supreme Court today refused to vacate the stay granted by it directing the trial court not to pronounce judgement in Icecream-parlour sex-scandal case in which former Kerala minister P K Kunhalikutty is the main accused.
In all, 16 accused including the former minister are facing trial in the case for the offence took place in Kerala in August 1997.
A bench comprising Justices B N Agarawal, P P Naolekar and R V Raveendran declined to vacate the stay when the matter was brought before the bench.
The counsel for Kunhalikutty contended before the court that the trial in the case has already been concluded and the trial court may be permitted to pronounce the judgement.
The apex court however declined the request, saying that it will itself decide the petition pending before it and till then the stay will continue.
