Rs 150-crore Island Resort in Alappuzha

Kochi, May 2 (UNI) A Rs 150-crore Island Resort will be set up by Kapico Kerala Resorts Private Limited, a joint venture of Mini Muthoottu of Kerala and international hospitality groups Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts (BTHR) and Kapico Group, at Cherthala in Alappuzha district.

Announcing the project here today, Mini Muthoottu Chairman Roy M Mathew said the seven-star resort built on a sprawling 20 acres, would have 33 standard villas, 17 deluxe villas and one presidential villa.

He said the resort meant for high-end tourists would be completed by December next.

''The resort will feature one swimming pool for each villa and have custom-made house-boat for receiving customers from the mainland,'' Mr Mathew added.

He said the company hoped to tap the tourism opportunities in Kerala by utilising the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the state.

Speaking on the occasion Banyan Tree Chairman Ho Kwonping said the architecture would blend with the topography and feature the Banyan Tree spa which would infuse the traditional Ayurvedic therapeutic values.

''The resort will be the most luxurious complex in India and will be a centre for rejuvenation of body, mind and soul,'' he claimed.

The Thailand-based BTHR has 20 hotels in Europe, Australia, Africa, Gulf countries and Central America.

The Kuwait-based Kapico group is a privately owned international company with more than 40 subsidiary and joint venture companies spread across 11 countries.
