Ballia, May 2 (UNI) Rubbishing ruling Samajwadi Party chief and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's claim of 'Uttam Pradesh', BJP president Rajnath Singh today said the former had only given way to 'goonda raj' in the state.

Addressing an election meeting here, Mr Singh asserted that far from the CM's talks of 'Uttam Pradesh', UP lacked basic facilities like power, water and road.

''SP makes false claims that it provides 24 hrs power supply to UP. People are not getting electricity, but only the power bill,'' he added.

''Mr Yadav is filling his pockets by befooling the masses,'' Mr Singh alleged.

He further criticised BSP chief Mayawati saying her party, which sold tickets could never remove 'goonda raj' from UP. ''Where have her slogans of 'tilak, tarazu and talwaar... (caste mark, scales and sword) gone.'' ''It is time, when people voted for BJP. 'Goonda Raj' can only end under our rule,'' Mr Singh reiterated.

''BJP would protect the Indian culture, maintain law and order and make the recital of Vande Mataram compulsory, if it wins the election,'' he promised.

Protection of girls' rights, economic aid for their marriage, reservation on basis of economic status were among the other promises made by the BJP leader.
