Punjab Police restarts Canadian radio program for NRIs

Chandigarh, May 2 (UNI) A Canadian radio program titled 'Asian Connections' aimed to provide the NRIs an opportunity and a platform to raise their grievances with a senior police officer has been restarted.

Senior IPS officer Kapil Dev, who is incharge of the NRI Affairs Cell last night listened to the problems of callers from countries like Canada, Italy and assured them that their grievances would be promptly brought before the authorities concerned for speedy redressal.

A police spokesman said today that keeping in view the problems being faced by the NRIs, a special cell (NRI Cell) was created at Punjab Police Headquarters, in February 2004. An AIG rank officer has been made the Incharge of this cell and it is working under the supervision and guidance of IGP Headquarters and DGP.

Earlier DIG Varinder Kumar was hearing the grievances of NRIs in this program which had gained considerable popularity among the Punjabi diaspora. Meanwhile, State Advocate General H S Matewal has appreciated the revival of the program and NRIs too have welcomed the resumption of the program and described it a convenient mode of redressal of their grievances. This is a forthrightly program being aired on every alternative Thursday between 2200 hours to 2300 hours (IST). The complainants can send their complaints through e-mail at [email protected] or Fax at PPCR Fax No 0172-5000637.
