UP: Kidnapped student yet to be recovered
Lucknow, May 1: The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police is yet to recover teenager Mohit Chandani, a class X student, who was kidnapped from the state capital yesterday.
Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) Lucknow Jyoti Narain here today said the police and STF team were progressing on the case but nothing could be disclosed about the investigation at this moment.
Meanwhile the SSP has transferred Police Superintendent(Trans- Gomti) Jagdeep Singh and suspended four policemen, including a Station Officer.
Sanjay Bajpai, the SO of Aliganj police station, under which the incident took place, was suspended with immediate effect late last night along with a sub-inspector and two constables.
A class X student, Mohit, was kidnapped while on way to school in Aliganj area yesterday morning.
He was going to school by a scooter with his father Purshottam Chandani-- a cloth merchant-- when three unidentified miscreants stopped them at gunpoint and sped away with Mohit in a car.
The vehicle used for the crime had registration number UP 46- 3665. Investigations however, revealed the registration number actually belonged to a scooter.
Police said no ransom call has been received by the family members while the investigating team has prepared a sketched based on the details given by Mr Chandani. However, the sketch was yet to be released to the media.
The opposition BJP has termed the incident as ''yet another example of poor law and order in the state'' and has threatened a 'Lucknow bandh' if police fails to collect clues about the crime in next 24 hours.
Meanwhile a delegation of the traders today met the SSP and urged him to ensure the released Mohit at the earliest. The traders criticised the BJP for ''playing politics'' over the issue and gave three days time to the police to work out the case.
On the other hand the local market at Kapoorthala kept their shutters down in protest against the kidnapping.
