UP: 4 policemen suspended in kidnap case
Lucknow, May 2: Four policemen, including a Station Officer, were suspended in the Mohit Chandani kidnap case even as the Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police was roped into service following the abduction of the teenager from the state capital this morning.
Sanjay Bajpayi, the SO of Aliganj police station, under which the incident took place, was suspended with immediate effect late tonight along with a sub-inspector and two constables, police sources said.
A class X student, Mohit, was kidnapped while on way to school in Aliganj area this morning.
He was going to school by a scooter with his father Purshottam Chandani a cloth merchant when three unidentified miscreants kidnapped him at gunpoint and sped away in a car.
Senior Superindent of Police (SSP), Lucknow Jyoti Narain told UNI here that the vehicle used for the crime had registration number UP 46- 3665. Investigations however, revealed the registration number actually belonged to a scooter.
Police said no ransom call has been received by the family members while the investigating team has prepared a sketched based on the details given by Mr Purshottam. However, the sketch was yet to be released to the media.
The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has termed the incident as ''yet another example of poor law and order in the state'' and has threatened a 'Lucknow bandh' if police fails to collect clues about the crime in next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Special Task Force (STF) and crime branch of Lucknow police have been working on the case.
Recently, two youths were caught red-handed while snatching a gold chain from Mohit's mother Kanchan.
Police said checking of vehicles has been intensified in the city to get hold of the cuplrits.
