Thane, May 2 (UNI) The women's wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which met at Mumbai today, condemned Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in strong words for ignoring at least two deserving women Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers for the post of chief secretary.

Talking to this correspondent this evening, BJP women's wing chief Maneesha Chowdhary said a number of IAS officers, including Rani Jadhav and Chitkala Zutshi, had been superseded while apppointing former Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Johny Joseph as the Chief Secretary.

The Congress-led government did not want women officers to grow and reach the top position. Hence they were being crushed and this was a gross injustice to the serving officials, she alleged.

The party whose state in-charge and chief are women, did not want to appoint a woman at the important post, she alleged and said this attitude of the Congress and its ally NCP should be condemned strongly.

Ms Chowdhary said they also discussed in detail the present situation in Maharashtra, which is rapidly detriorating under the leadership of Mr Deshmukh.

She said the BJP leaders felt that at every stage the government had ignored the women and it never bothered about the atrocities committed against women and dalits.

The party has no right to claim that it is a secular one, she added.
