Water crisis in Delhi : CM role be probed by CBI says BJP

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Calling for a CBI probe into all the dealings related to the Delhi Jal Board in the past eight years of Congress rule which has left Delhi thirsty, the BJP today said small officers were being made scapegoats while the 'big fish' were being shielded as the privatisation scam was unfolding.

Addressing mediapersons Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit as Chairperson of the DJB was directly responsible for the various improprieties and scams in the Jal Board and a thorough CBI probe was needed to bring out the 'real culprits'.

''If a proper investigation is done by the CBI nothing can prevent the Chief Minister and her relatives involved in the scam from going to jail.'' Water crisis in the city was a result of the ill conceived policies of the Congress and even the Lokayukta had commented that the DJB was steeped in corruption, he said while adding that parallel mafias were running the 'supply show' in the Capital.

Besides this, several Congress workers were earning crores by supplying 'stolen water' through private supply chains and tank water dealings, he informed the media.

''Instead of reviving water bodies, talking to neighbouring states and channelising the Yamuna waters to deal with water scarcity, the Congress government was bent upon privatising water supply like electricity distribution which was against public interest.'' Delhi BJP president Harshvardhan said despite eight years of Congress rule water problem in Delhi remains and Ms Dikshit can blame no one for it.

''Either the government fix the problem or be ready to face the consequences,'' he stated and added that his party would be forced to take to the streets, if Delhi continues to reel under the scorching heat with scam water supply and faulty electricity supply.
