UPA to bring in law to protect unorganised labourers
Thiruvananthapuram, May 1 (UNI) Defence Minister A K Antony today said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government will bring in a legislation for the security of workers in the unorganised sector this year.
Speaking at a May Day Meeting organised by Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) here, he said the government had already decided to table a Bill in Parliament to ensure security and welfare of the workers in the unorganised sector.
Stressing that the Congress would not allow hire-and-fire policy under any circumstances, he said the government though was committed to industrial progress, it would not be done by harming the interests of the country's workforce.
The government would take care of the interests of the working class and small and marginal farmers even while going for industrialisation and economic progress, Mr Antony said.
