SC stays demolition of 3000 slum dwellings

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed the demolition of 3000 slum dwellings near Haldwani Railway Station in Uttarakhand.

A bench comprising Justices B N Aggarwal, P P Naolekar and R V Raveendran stayed the demolition of the slum dwellings till the next date of hearing, which is in the second week of May.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner contended that the poor slum dwellers living near the railway tracks cannot be removed without being relocated and unless interim relief is granted, the slums could be removed anytime by the authorities.

The slum colony under question is Malin Basti.
