Punjab to have new trnasport policy: Badal

Chandigarh, May 1 (UNI) The Punjab Government will formulate a new Transport Policy for the mini bus opration in the state within two weeks.

This was announced by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal while addressing a delegation of Mini Bus Operators' Association, led by its president Harinder Sharma here today.

In a significant decision aimed at streamlining public transport system, the Chief Minister also directed the Transport Department to notify the various routes in the state so that the State Transport Undertaking (STU) gets its due share of routes in the new policy.

The Chief Minister assured the delegation that the government would accommodate all the legitimate demands of the Mini Bus operators in the new policy. He also said the government was concerned about the crisis through which the transport sector in general and mini bus operators in particular were currently passing through.

He said concrete steps, with long term objectives in view, would be taken to address and solve the problems of the transport sector.

Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Tarnsport Ministers Master Mohan Lal and senior officials of the transport department.
