Pakistan changing course of Sutlej, Ravi towards India: Govt
New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) India has not lost any land due to Sutlej and Ravi rivers changing their courses, due to some projects being constructed by Pakistan, the government said.
''Information received from Punjab Government showed that Pakistan has built some projects to push the course of the rivers Sutlej and Ravi gradually towards the Indian side,'' Minister of State for Water Resources Jai Prakash Narain Yadav said in a written reply to Lok Sabha yesterday.
The Pakistan projects were on their territory and there was no major diversion of the course of the rivers Ravi and Sutlej, he added.
The minister said a Committee of his Ministry visited vulnerable spots in the border districts every year before and after monsoons to suggest remedial measures to the state government to be undertaken under the prevailing ground conditions along with flood control/anti-erosion recommendations.
The Punjab Government undertook remedial measures from its own resources and the Centre was providing financial assistance in the form of special loan and grant-in-aid as well as technical expertise to the state government for undertaking the works.
