Orissa launches e-payment of motor vehicle tax
Bhubaneswar, May 1 (UNI) Motor vehicle owners in Orissa can now pay their tax and other fees at 75 computerised post-offices spread across 30 Revenue districts in the state.
The country's first e-payment of Motor vehicle taxes and fees was launched in the state under the new e-governance system with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurating the system at the General Post Office(GPO) here today.
Mr Patnaik said with the launching of the e-payment system the commonman would be benefitted and transparency in the tax system would be maintained.
The Orissa Postal Circle has reached an agreement with the State Transport Authority(STA) to collect the motor vehicle tax and other fees from 26 Regional Transport Offices(RTO) and STA from today through e-payment service.
Official sources said the pilot project was successfully commenced for the RTO Bhubaneswar on April 16.
With the launching of the system across the state from today the motor vehicle owner could now pay the tax and fees for different RTOs in any designated computerised post offices of their choice and according to their convenience.
Under the new system, a motor vehicle owner will have to pay a meager amount of Rs.6 towards the service charges and education cess along with the tax fee.
