Thiruvananthapuram, May 1 (UNI) Defence Minister A K Antony today stressed that the country would not allow any terrorist outfit to operate from its territory.

No part in the country, including Tamil Nadu, would be allowed to be used as a base for terrorist operations, he told reporters here after laying the foundation stone for the Jai Hind TV, which was backed by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

On the latest developments in Sri Lanka, he said, ''we are closely watching it.'' Sri Lanka was an independent country and they had to take a decision on the issue, he added.

Asked about the threat to airports, he said terrorist activities were carried out not only through air and land, but also through the coastal areas and stressed the need for strengthening the security in those areas.

Earlier at a function in Kollam, the Defence Minister said the government had taken the internal developments in the neighbouring Sri Lanka seriously and coastal security had been stepped up in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, as the southern peninsula was closer to the Island nation.

Mr Antony said the country was giving top priority to coastal security with the help of the Navy, the coast guard and coastal police of the states concerned.

As part of strengthening the coastal surveillance and security in the south, more radars would be installed to closely monitor the situation, he added.
