New party will be floated in couple of months: Sarath

Chennai, May 1 (UNI) Popular film actor Sarath Kumar today said discussions were underway with people who were closely associated with former Chief Minister late Kamaraj to float a new political party in Tamil Nadu.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Sarath Kumar, who returned from Virudhunagar after laying the foundation stone for a memorial for late Kamaraj at his birth place in Mayittanpatti, said he would formally launch the party in a couple of months.

Making it clear that the proposed party would not compete with any existing political parties, including the Desiya Morpukku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founded by actor Vijayakant, Mr Kumar said the new party would maintain its own identity.

One of his aims after launching the new party was to bring back all the voters to the polling stations during elections as most of them keep away from casting their vote these days, the former DMK Rajya Sabha MP said.

Replying to a question, the actor, who was also briefly associated with the AIADMK said he was undertaking the task for launching the new party, which would be truly democratic and transparent in all levels to bring back the legacy of Kamaraj.

Mr Kumar, who quit the AIADMK, a few months also said his film career would not be affected following the launch of the new party.

Referring to the construction of the memorial for Kamaraj, the actor, who was associated with the DMK before the assembly elections in May 2006 said, ''We will also form a 'Perunthalaivar' Kamaraj Educational, Medical and Charitable Trust comprising of Nadars and other community people as members.'' ''The Trust would look after the construction of the proposed memorial,'' he said, adding that to start with land scaping, greenery and design of the memorial would be finalised in the next six months. Thereafter the memorial would be completed within a couple of years.

He said state president of Samajwadi Party and Yadava community leader Gopalakrishnan had assured to extend support of his community to the new party as well as to build the memorial of Kamaraj.
