Militants feared killed in gunbattle in Chandel

Imphal, May 1 (UNI) Some militants were feared killed in a heavy gun battle between suspected ultras and troops at Chandel district today, Assam Rifles sources said.

The encounters were still going, the sources said.

Meanwhile residents of Bashikhong, protested the killing of 46-year- old Athokpam Manja whose dead body was found yesterday.

Manja was allegedly picked up by troops from here on Sunday last.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) has urged Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to find out the killers and compensate the bereaved family.

The body of the deceased was still lying at the morgue of RIMS as the JAC has refused to take back.
