Chennai, May 1 (UNI) Expressing shock over the revelations that the banned LTTE were involved in the killing of five fishermen from Kanyakumari district, the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP today alleged that LTTE activists were infiltrating into the State under the guise of Sri Lankan refugees.

In a statement here, BJP State President L Ganesan said the killing of Indian fishermen only showed that the banned militant outfit was having a free run in the Indian territory and had been using the sea for smuggling arms and ammunitions.

Observing that the fishermen were either shot or arrested when they drifted away from the Indian territory, he alleged that the Indian Navy had not been taking any steps to prevent LTTE from smuggling arms.

The LTTE, which had lost the support of the people following the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, had now started gaining ground, he claimed.

''Even those not supporting the LTTE are coming to India as refugees, who are being received under humanitarian consideration.

But the LTTE has been using this as a tool to infiltrate into the State under the guise of refugees,'' he added.

Mr Ganesan also urged the government to take steps to secure the release of 12 Indian fishermen who were stated to be under the custody of LTTE.
