Khanduri urges ex-soldiers not to resell canteen items

Dehra Dun, May 1 (UNI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj Gen (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri today urged ex-servicemen to refrain from selling CSD (Canteen Service Depot) items.

''It would neither project a good image of soldiers nor set a good example in the society,'' he told ex-soldiers in a programme organised by the Uttarakhand Ex-Services League here. Admitting that the ex-soldiers were not being paid due respect in the state despite it having the largest number of them, Maj Gen (retd) Khanduri assured that his government would ensure employment opportunities for them and their support would be sought for the development of the state. ''Ex-soldiers had been given representation in the politics by the people, which is a matter of pride and credibility and my government would definitely look into their demands on priority basis,'' he said.

Earlier the Ex-Servicemen League handed over him a memorandum seeking reconstitution of Soldier's Welfare Ministry, reservation in government jobs, establishment of Ecological Battalions, preference to them in Indo-Nepal Border Force, admission in Technological institutes for them, raising war memorials, tax rebates on electronic items and vehicles, lands on low cost and due honour to martyrs.
