New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Japan today said it has simplified its visa regime, enabling Indians to travel to the country in a less cumbersome manner.

''The visa will now be filed through registered agents. So far, eight travel agents have been registered and applications been invited for others. Unlike the earlier practise, obtaining a visa will no longer require an income proof and actual ticket,'' Japanese Minister for Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Tetsuzo Fuyushiba told reporters here.

The Minister, who is heading the Japanese delegation to India, handed over a letter to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in this regard.

He had a 30-minute meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and both the sides exchanged opinions on various sectors, including transport and travel.

He also met Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and both the countries signed an MoU on urban transport, water and environment.

During his meeting with Mr Reddy, it was confirmed that both the countries would continue to strengthen their co-operation, The visiting Minister disclosed.

He also met Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni yesterday.

Replying to a question, he said the issue of revival of the ancient university of Nalanda did not come up for discussion.

The Japanese Minister, who also called on Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today, said the feasibility study report on the Railways' Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) -- the single largest infrastructure project in the country -- being carried out by a Japanese company, will be completed by October this year.
