Jagjit Singh gets no relief, HC sends notice to Punjab Govt
Chandigarh, May 1 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today gave no relief to former Punjab minister Jagjit Singh Chaudhry seeking interim anticipatory bail or stay on arrest in the Ludhiana City Centre scam case.
However, Justice Ranjit Singh has issued notice for May 8 to the Punjab government on the anticipatpry bail application of the former minister in connection with the award of contract for the construction of the controversial multi-crore City Centre project of Ludhiana Improvement Trust to a New Delhi-based company Today Homes.
Earlier, Mr Singh's bail plea was turned down by a Ludhiana court in the case registered against him by state Vigilance Bureau at Ludhiana on March 23, 2007 under the Prevention of Corruption Act among others whereafter his non-bailable warrants of arrest were issued.
However, former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh had secured anticipatopry bail in this case whereafter he returned from Britain.
