Health authorities gear up to check jaundice in Amritsar

Amritsar, May 1 (UNI) After Phagwara, the Punjab health authorities are now gearing up to check and curtail the spread of jaundice in the Holy City of Amritsar.

Medical Education and Research Minister Tikshan Sood has ordered the Director of his ministry to provide immediate medical assistance in the jaundice-hit areas of the city. This has been done to tackle the epidemic like situation in the city in proper manner.

A official spokesman here today said that the Director Medical Education has been directed to take immediate steps to stop the spread of this disease. Instructions are to provide seprate male and female wards in the medical college hospital here for the patines.

A senior resident assisted by junior residents, nursing and paramedical will be on duty round-the-clock in these wards. The medicines and other facilities required for the treatment of the jaundice patients would be made available on priority.

In case any patient suffering from jaundice is admitted to any hospital in the city, the hospital authorities after diagnosis have been asked to inform the Civil Surgeon/Health Officer so that the necessary steps can taken to stop the spread of the disease in a particular locality. The Principal of the Medical College has been asked to collect water samples, get these tested and then send the report to the Deputy Commissioner for taking corrective measures.
