Haryana to build labour colonies near industrial towns
Chandigarh, May 1 (UNI) The Haryana Government has decided to construct labour colonies near the major industrial townships in the state for the convenience of the labourers.
A sum of Rs 50 lakh has been earmarked for the development of such colonies during the current financial year, Haryana Industries Minister Lachhman Dass Arora said today.
The objective of the scheme was to prevent the growth of slums, he added.
He said the reason for the growth of slums around industrial areas was the non-availability of suitable and economical accommodation for the labourers to live around these areas.
To avoid growth of slum areas and at the same time to solve the residential problem of the labourers, the State Government had initiated this scheme under which labour colonies would be constructed in the industrial areas, towns and parks.
Simultaneously, 'Rain baseras' would also be constructed in the premises being developed by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation and in the HUDA sectors for the labourers, he added.
On the occassion of International Labour Day today, Mr. Arora assured that the Haryana government was committed to protect the interests of the labourers at a time when the state was fast pacing up on the road to industrialisation.
