Congress releases list of candidates for SMC

Shimla, May 1 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) today released the complete list of its candidates for the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) elections.

The state Congress Government, which is into its fifth year, retained only seven candidates from the outgoing corporation of 25 wards and introduced 18 new faces in a bid to fight the incumbency factor.

The party has retained Jitender Chaudhary from ward no one (Bharari), Shashi Shekhar from ward no 10 (Phagli), Ashok Sood from ward no 13 (Lakkar Bazar), Narender Kataria from ward no 15 (Benmore), Harish Janartha from ward no 16 (Engine Ghar), Sudhir Azad from ward no 17 (Sanjauli) and Kusum Chauhan from ward no 23 (Payog).

Mr Atma Ram Chauhan is the party candidate from ward no two (Ruldu Bhatta), Seema Chauhan from warn no three (Kaithu), Ravinder Nath Popa from ward no four (Annadale), Santosh Kumar from ward no six (Totu) and Usha Lakhanpal from ward no seven (Boileauganj).

The party has fielded Anita Hanoth from ward no eight (Tutikandi), Amit Nanda from ward no nine (Nabha), Kaushalaya Channa from ward no 11 (Krishna Nagar), GItanjali BHagra from ward no 12 (Ram Bazar) and former mayor Manoj Kumar from ward no 14 (Jakhoo).

Ms Sanjay Kumar has been fielded from ward no 18 (Dhalli), Mohinder Singh from ward no 19 (Chamiyana), Vasundhara Chauhan from ward no 20 (Malayana), Maheshwar Chauhan from ward no 21 (Kasumpati), Surinder Kumar from ward no 22 (Chotta Shimla), Dev Raj Sharma from ward no 24 (Khalini) and Madhu Sood from ward no 25 (Kanlog), a party release here said.
