Cong refutes TDP's charges on projects in Telangana
Hyderabad, May 1 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today refuted the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) charges the state government was neglecting irrigation projects in Telangana Region.
In a statement here, APCC Spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy said the government had spent more funds than the TDP on irrigation projects in Telangana Region for its development.
Reeling out statistics, he said while the TDP Government spent Rs 4,556.83 crore during its nine-year rule, the Congress Government expended Rs 1,762 crore in 2004-05, Rs 3,469 crore in 2005-06 and Rs 3,853 crore in 2006-07. It earmarked Rs 4,924 crore for 2007-08.
The government had allocated funds for Devadula, Kalvakurti, Sri Ram Sagar, Yellkampalli, Dummagudem Irrigation Projects in Telangana.
The government proposed to divert 140 tmcft of Godavari water from Dummagudem to tail end pond of the Nagarjunasagar only to avoid unutilised water going into sea.
The MLR car factory coming up in Medak District at an estimated cost of Rs 5,000 crore would create employment opportunities for 6,000 people.
The Congress leader said the government had taken steps for the welfare of handloom sector in the state. It had directed all the departments to place orders with APCO for uniforms with a view to help weavers and handloom sector.
He said the TDP leaders were making baseless allegations against the government for their political existence.
