Hyderabad, May 1 (UNI) The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Andhra Pradesh today demanded the Congress Government to convene an all-party meeting to finalise the state's stand on the alleged illegal construction of Babli project across the River Godavari by Maharashtra.

''We are ready to speak in one voice with the State Government to protect the state's interest. The Government should not stand on false prestige. It should take the opposition into confidence before finalising the State's stand in the Supreme Court and during any negotiations with Maharashtra on the issue,'' BJP National Secretary N Indirasena Reddy said at a press conference here.

He said the state should demand constitution of a Committee by the Apex Court to oversee the implementation of its interim order by Maharashtra, he felt.

Taking strong objection to Telangana Rashtra Samithi's (TRS) claim that the Babli project involved only 2.5 TMC, he maintained that as much as 40,000 acres could be irrigated with this water.

Maharashtra was contemplating lifting more water through the project located on the backwaters of the Sriramsagar project, he contended.

With the Rangareddy District Court ruling that the lands in Nadargul belonged to the Government, the latter should cancel illegal sale of such land, initiate action against officials who had allegedly colluded with the land encroachers and return those lands to Dalits, he added.
