Narmada projects create irrigation potential of 67,632 hectares
Bhopal, Apr 30 (UNI) Narmada Valley projects have created the maximum ever 67,632 hectare irrigation potential in 2006-07.
Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) Vice-Chairman Uday Kumar Verma said strict financial control, micro-planning and monitoring had been adopted during this year.
He said the Maan irrigation project was completed in October 2006 and the Shaheed Chandra Shekhar Azad (Jobat) Project would be completed this yere June.
In 2006-07, an irrigation potential of 30,543 hectare from Rani Avanti Bai Sagar project and 10,141 hectare from Bargi Diversion project had been created.
The Indira Sagar Project created 10,948 hectare, the Maan project 10,500 hectares and Jobat project created 5500 hectare irrigation potential.
Mr Verma said a target to create 94,000 additional irrigation potential in 2007-08 had been fixed. In order to achieve the target, micro-monitoring of the on-going works had been introduced.
The work of 2,000 km-long distributaries and minor canals were in progress under different projects.
The work of the Upper Veda and Kathora projects in Khargone district had been speeded up, the release added.
