Naidu calls upon partymen to strengthen TDP
Hyderabad, Apr 30 (UNI) Opposition leader and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today called upon party leaders and workers to strive to strengthen the organisation from the grassroots level as people had high expectations of TDP.
Addressing members at the state committee meeting here, he said the TDP leadership had taken several measures to strengthen the party and it was responsibility of everyone to unitedly work to fight against the 'anti-people' policies of the government.
The TDP had always worked for the welfare of farmers, backward classes, Dalits, minorities and other sections of society in the state, he said, adding the TDP was the only political party which was conducting organisational elections in a systematic way.
After completing the membership drive, it had nearly 14 lakh active members and 85 lakhs normal members. The party had also completed the elections to the village and ward committees.
Elections to the Mandal towns and divisions committees would be held soon. The training classes would be conducted from May 2 to 7 before the formation of the committees, he added.
Stating that the TDP Mahanadu would be conducted from May 27 to 29 at Tirupati in a grand manner in connection with the silver jubilee celebrations of the party, he said the silver jubilee celebrations of the party would be conducted in every village, mandal and at the district-level.
He said 50 per cent reservations would be given to BC, ST and minority communities, 40 per cent to youth and 30 per cent to women in the committees.
Asking party workers to visit villages and create awareness among people about the anti-people policies of the government, The TDP chief alleged that the Congress government during the last three years had neglected the welfare of the people, farmers and other backward classes.
Atrocities on the party workers had increased in the state during Congress rule, he said and charged the government with failing to protect the welfare of the people.
The government had also not taken any steps to stop the suicides by farmers and weavers in the state, he said and claimed that 4,565 farmers and weavers had committed suicides in the state.
