IBM unveils 5 innovations
Hyderabad, Apr 30 (UNI) IBM today unveiled five new innovations which would change lives of people all over the world over the next five years.
In a statement here, IBM India Research Laboratory Director Daniel Dias said the innovations based on market and societal trends were expected to transform the lives and include remote control healthcare, 3-D internet and mobile which knows the whereabouts and preferences of its users.
''In the next five years, patients' conditions could be monitored through remote sensors in their home worn on the person or in devices and packaging.
These advancements will also allow patients to monitor their health in a better way and help clinicians provide ongoing preventive care regardless of a person's location,'' he said.
Besides, advanced presence technology will help mobile phones and PDAs to automatically learn about the user's whereabouts and preferences.
He said real-time translation technologies and services will be embedded in mobile phones, handheld devices and cars which will help eliminate language barriers and encourage social interaction.
''The 3-D internet will enable new kinds of education, remote medicine and consumer experiences, transforming how we interact with our friends, family, doctors and teachers.
''Also, nanotechnology, which has so far had a major impact on microprocessors, will in future be used for water filtration.
''Our researchers are focused on the application of technologies in ways that matter to people, business and society,'' Dr Dias said, adding, ''Open collaborative research and real-world innovations are going to shape the future and in the next five years.'' UNI
