Haryana to set up 80 vet institutions

Chandigarh, Apr 30 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to open or upgrade 80 Veterinary Institutions in the state at a cost of Rs six crore during the current financial year to provide the farmers and livestock breeders veterinary facilities in their vicinity.

Haryana Animal Husbandry Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha said 40 new Civil Veterinary dispensaries would be opened while 40 Hospital-cum-Breeding Centres (HCBCs) would be created. The HSBCs would be set up either by upgradation of Veterinary Dispensaries or new such centres would be opened.

The Minister said the main aim of the schemes was to help the farmers and livestock breeders in curing their valuable ailing livestock in their nearby places so that they did not have to travel long distances for the purpose.

These institutions would provide prophylactic vaccination treatment facilities to the livestock against contagious and non contagious diseases, he added.

Mr Chahta said the state already had best infrastructure with a network of 2605 veterinary institutions, one for every three villages which was being manned by well trained staff to provide health cover and breeding services.

Mr Chatha said that to provide quality Veterinary Services, the State Government had taken steps to establish Polyclinics at strategic District Headquartes in a phased manner. Two such polyclinics were being established at Bhiwani and Sonepat, in addition to a Pet Animal Medical Centre-cum-Teaching Hospital at Panchkula.

All the veterinary institutions that had outlived its utility would be reconstructed afresh with an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore during the current financial year, he added.
