CJM directs CBI to file report on Abhaya case on May 2
Kochi, Apr 30 (UNI) The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) today directed the CBI to file its report on the chief chemical examiner's workbook in the controversial Sister Abhaya Murder Case on May two.
It gave the direction while dismissing the agency's application, seeking one month's time to submit its report.
Chief Judicial Magistrate P D Sharangdharan directed the agency to file its report on May two. The workbook was handed over to the investigating agency on November 29, 2006.
The case came into the limelight once again following media reports that the chemical tests of vaginal swab and smear conducted on the body of the 21-year-old nun had been tampered with.
The nun's body was found in the well at the Pious Tenth Convent, in Kottayam on March 27, 1992.
According to a petition submitted by Joemon Puthenpurackal, former convenor of the Sister Abhaya Action Committee, before the CJM court, Thiruvananthapuram, there was a criminal conspiracy, followed by tampering of evidence that resulted in turning a rape and murder case into one of suicide.
