Vijayakant says "no" to national politics
Hosur, Apr 29 (UNI) Actor-politician and founder of the Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Vijayakant today said he was not interested in national politics and would confine to Tamil Nadu.
Participating in the mass-marriage ceremony of 50 couples oranised by the party's Krishnagiri Distict unit, Mr Vijayakanth said, however, he was keeping open the options for forging alliance with other parties before the next general elections.
He said, ''I don't aspire to become the Prime Minister of India as my interests lie only in Tamil Nadu. The question of alliance with other parties in the run upto the general elections will be dealt at an appropriate time.'' Gold 'mangalsutra' and utensils and commodities worth Rs one lakh were distributed to the newly-wedded couples.
He claimed that 2,000 poor couples got married under the party's initiative so far. Taking a dig at both the DMK and the AIADMK, Mr Vijayakanth said the people of the state were not a happy lot.
Stating that the large number of youths were still unemployed in the state, he urged the government to bring in welfare schemes for the the poor and downtrodden.
Scotching speculations that he had entered into politics after getting fed up with films, he said he presently had five film projects.
