CIIS launches scholarship scheme for meritorious students
Ahmedabad, Apr 29 (UNI) The Canadian Institute for International Studies (CIIS) today announced an ambitious scheme to enlarge the scope of international education for talented and needy students.
The institute will offer scholarships equivalent to a whopping Rs six crore for academically brilliant students who wish to enrol for international studies but are usually discouraged by the large monetary component involved.
The courses, called Campus India, is present available in Chandigarh and is being planned in five major cities of Gujarat -- Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Surat and Anand, CIIS marketing manager Amit Sood said.
CIIS' latest ''Student Monetary Award Scheme for 2007'' was announced by Mr Sood in the presence of Mr Geoff Wilmshurst, Director Thompson Rivers University (TRU), British Columbia, Canada.
Announcing the scheme for the current session 2007-08, Mr Wilmshurst said that the scholarships, ''monetary award scheme'', have been specifically designed keeping in mind the requirements of needy, poor but talented students from rural background or from the families of farmers or defence personnel.
''Our international studies off-shore campus at CIIS is already receiving tremendous response from the students of the region, many of whom have achieved great success in Canada in the last successive years. But, off late, we felt that still we had been missing out on the vital talent pool because of financial constraints. We wanted to expand the scope of international studies locally by broad-basing our students' pool which is only possible by a scheme which could fill that critical monetary gap,'' he said.
