Tough fight between BJP, BSP in UP: Exit poll
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) Exit polls after the fifth phase of elections in Uttar Pradesh indicate gains for the Bharatiya Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party while the ruling Samajwadi Party is set to lose badly in the face of negative swing of votes.
The survey conducted by Star News shows the BJP and its allies and BSP getting 18 seats each, thereby, securing a positive swing of 1.4 per cent in their favour compared to their performance in the 2002 elections.
The BSP is predicted to get a whopping 24 per cent voteshare while the BJP and its allies get 23 per cent. The SP is estimated to get 22 per cent votes to win 12 seats. However, the Mulayum Singh Yadav led party is seen as suffering a negative swing of 2.3 per cent compared to the scene in the 2002 elections.
The Congress is in the fourth place, securing 14 per cent votes to win 6 seats. Others in the fray are placed in the last slot with 17 per cent votes and are expected to win only 3 seats.
The projection for the entire state after the fifth phase of polling shows that the BSP will be in the first place, winning 141 seats followed by the BJP and its allies with 104 seats. The SP comes third with 91 seats. The Congress and others are said to win 29 and 37 seats respectively.
The NDTV survey, on the other hand, shows the BJP as winning 21 seats while the BSP is said to win 14 seats. The SP has 10 seats in its kitty closely followed the Congress with 9. Others contesting the elections have a hand on 3 seats according to the survey.
