NICE to have a common 'Northern India Economy'
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) Recognising a need for good governance to solve the entire gamut of problems pertaining to the economy, the Chief Secretaries Summit held here today unanimously agreed on the concept of having a 'Northern India Common Economy.' The agenda for the Chief Secretaries Summit-2007 was to consider implementation of the consensus recommendations of the three task forces on the focus subjects to usher faster economic growth in the concerned states.
Principle Secretary to the Prime Minister T K A Nair said, ''There were no dearth of ideas, but execution of these ideas were the main problem. What we need is an area wise recognition to the problems and a concerted and continuos effort to solve it.'' Although the Constitution of India vide its Article 19 gives the freedom to ''carry on any occupation, trade or business,'' over the years states have managed to create barriers to choke inter-state trade and commerce.'' When the world is moving towards dismantling barriers to trade it is imperative that states within the country realise this and implement it,'' said Mr Gokul Patnaik of PHDCCI.
