India's pvt security business to reach new heights

Bhopal, Apr 28: The private security business in India possesses the potential for exponential growth to the tune of Rs 25,000 crore by 2015 and has the capacity to create five lakh jobs annually, claims an ISO 9001:2000-certified company that operates across 22 states.

''The Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 will lead to regulated competition and industry consolidation while price correction and market segmentation are expected, besides entry of several MNCs, synergy between government and private security organisations. A larger role for the private security industry is envisaged in national security and disaster management,'' Security and Intelligence Services (SIS) India Chairman and Managing Director R K Sinha said here today.

Claiming that his personnel were equipped with the gadgetry and knowhow to even take part in sting operations, he declined to either conform or deny that SIS aided any media expose.

''We have assisted the CBI in certain cases. SIS India has been in the industry since 1974. Last year, it achieved the status of the third largest security company in the country. Our Compound Annual Growth Rate exceeded 40 per cent over the past three years. We have over 20,000 non-unionised permanent employees. More than 1,000 clients include goverment establishments, public sector, private sector and MNCs,'' Mr Sinha said.

The range of services comprises Electronic Security Systems, Consultancy and Investigation (C and I), Cash-In-Transit (CIT), Guarding Services and Value Added Services. The SIS India Corporate Office is at New Delhi while eight regional offices are at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Nagpur and Ranchi.

Forty branch offices are located at Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Dehradun, Dhanbad, Gurgaon, Hospet, Indore, Jamshedpur, Kanpur, Lucknow, NOIDA, Patna, Puducherry, Pune, Raipur, Sambalpur etc. ''The Bhopal Branch was established in 2004, employs over 1,500 individuals and serves more than 85 corporate customers. Major ones are Eicher, Lupin Pharma, Coca-Cola, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Hotel Noor-us-Sabah Palace, Bank of Baroda, Monnet Ispat, Tata Steel, VSNL, Grasim Cements, Punjab National Bank, Kirloskar Brothers, Ruchi Soya, HR Johnson, Tata International, CHL Apollo, Speedage, Impetus and Haldirams,'' claimed Mr Sinha.

The company is targeting an income of Rs 12 crore from Central India in 2007-08, Rs 4 crore from this city alone, 2,000 permanent jobs for Madhya Pradesh's rural youth by 2010 and 300 permanent jobs for ex-servicemen each year.

SIS India operates four residential training academies providing multiple courses for civilians and ex-servicemen at Dehradun, Gurgaon, Garhwa and Bangalore and 35 recruitment centres that have the capacity to train 10,500 personnel annually.

The ''product range'' includes Security Guards, Security Supervisor, Security Inspector, Asst Security Officer, Fire Squad, Dog Squad, Special Squad, CIT crew and C and I Operatives.

The capability and design exist for conducting ''customised training'' at the customer site.

The estimated market size of the private security industry in this country is Rs, 7,000-8,000 crore while the estimated growth rate is 20-25 per cent per annum. It is among the largest contributors of Service Tax, employs about 50 lakh individuals and is amongst the largest job-creators for ex-servicemen. The highly-fragmented market has over 10,000 companies.
