New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) The scorching heat wave sweeping Delhi today intensified with the mercury level rising to 42.4 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal.

The minimum temperature rose to 23.4 degrees Celsius, from 22.1 degrees recorded yesterday.

For the second consecutive day, scorching heat forced Delhiites to remain indoors in the comfort of their homes and offices.

A severe heat wave could be in the offing in the coming days with the weatherman forecasting a rise in day temperatures in the next two to three days.

''Day temperatures are likely to increase further over Northwest India during the next two to three days,'' the met office predicted.

The met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with the possibility of some duststorms in evening or nights.

The maximum temperature tomorrow is likely to remain at around 42 degrees Celsius, the met office said.
