Haryana farmers to be paid compensation by May 10

Chandigarh, Apr 28 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today directed all Deputy Commissioners to complete within ten weeks the survey to identify families living Below Poverty Line (BPL) and also ensure distribution of compensation by May 10 to those farmers whose crops had been damaged due to heavy rains and hailstorm during February and March.

The Chief Minister, who was addressing a meeting of Deputy Commissioners, Divisional Commissioners and senior officers of the State government here said while identifying the BPL families, they should take personal interest and ensure that only deserving families get enrolled. He made it clear that survey should be conducted impartially so that there was no complaint of any irregularity in its conduct.

However, he made it clear that the period of the survey would not be extended in any case.

Regarding crops destroyed due to inclement weather, Mr Hooda said out of a total compensation amount of Rs 225 crore sanctioned by the government for distribution amongst the affected farmers, Rs 44 crore had already been distributed so far and the remaining amount would be given by May 10. It may be recalled that crops over an area of 5.61 lakh hectares had been damaged due to rains and hailstorm.

It was informed in the meeting that more power would be given to the agriculture sector even if the state has to purchase it at higher rates.

While making it clear to the Deputy Commissioners that there was no dearth of funds for developmental works, the Chief Minister urged them to play a pro-active role in developmental works and ensure timely completion of all projects so as to achieve the target of making Haryana the number one state in all spheres of development.

He also stressed that the officers should work in a team spirit to achieve this mission.

He said they should constitute coordination committees at the district level for speedy completion of developmental projects.

A proforma of the inventory, to be made from April 1, 2005 for the developmental works in every village was distributed among the Deputy Commissioners.
