Criminal action against legislators in assets case: Lok Ayukta

Bangalore, Apr 28 (UNI) Karnataka Lok Ayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde today said he would initiate criminal action against 19 Legislators who had failed to file their assets details for the year 2005-06 even as the deadline for filing ended this evening.

''They will face action under IPC 176. Under Section 22 of Lok Ayukta Act, incomplete details submitted by them earlier, cannot be accepted,'' Justice Hegde told newspersons here.

The list included 17 members of the Legislative Assembly and two of Legislative Council. BJP members dominate the list, which also includes state Youth Congress President Dinesh Gundurao and JD(S) leader Balakrishna.

On April 11, the Lok Ayukta had served notices to 135 legislators including some ministers for filing incomplete details.
