Centre need to take more active part in Nandigram: Pradip
Kolkata, Apr 28 (UNI)West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee working President Pradip Bhattacharjee today said it was necessary for the Centre to take a more active part in the Nandigram issue.
He said a PCC delegation team would soon meet with President A P J Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and informed them the state's latest position on land acquisition issue also seek their intervention in this regard.
"We think that the situation in Nandigram would normalise after the March 14 incidents, but now it seems that the situation could worsen if the state government did not take initiative to control the situation immediately," he said.
He said the problem of land acquisition for industrialisation would not arise if the ruling government followed the former Chief Minister Dr B C Roy's development policy.
The working committee meeting would be called soon to discuss with the leaders about the party's future movement, he informed.
The PCC has taken several programmes, including the law violation programme against the government's land acquisition policy from June 15 to first week of July throughout the state, and a workers rally would be held on July one at the Netaji Indoor stadium, Mr Bhattacharjee said.
He said the PCC would also organise two massive rally on the centenary anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's Satyagraha Movement at Balurghat and Midnapore town where External Affairs Minister and PCC President Pranab Mukherejee and several AICC leaders would be present.
