Bride calls off marriage at last minute

Ferozpur, Apr 28 (UNI) A bridegroom had to return home without the bride, as she refused to tie the nuptial knot claiming she was a minor.

The bride, Jyoti while refusing to participate in the 'anand karaj' ceremony before the Guru Granth Sahib also alleged that the groom, Yashpal was not the same boy whom she got engaged with last week.

Due to Jyoti's adament attitude Yashpal and the 'baraatis' (marriage party) left the marriage venue, leaving the bride with her parents, who kept pleading with their daughter to solemnise the marriage.

The grooms parents and relatives, however, returned and demanded that they be compensated financially.

Jyoti alleged that her father was getting her married against her wishes.

It was an unpleasant situation for the 'baraatis' and the family members of the groom, who had completed certain marriage formalities including the 'milni'. As tension mounted and a scene was created, the police was called and both the parties were summoned to the city police station.

The police tried to settle the matter amicably but the family of the groom, after terminating the engagement demanded that they should get back the amount that was spent on various ceremonies related to the marriage. However, both the parties failed to reach a compromise.
