BJS not to field candidate from Shivpuri
Bhopal, Apr 28 (UNI) Bharatiya Jan Shakti (BJS) General Secretary Prahlad Patel today said the party would not field its candidate for the assembly by-election in Shivpuri constituency in Madhya Pradesh.
Mr Patel told UNI here that the BJS felt that it should begin preparations for 2008 assembly elections in the state instead of this by-election.
However, a decision in this regard would be taken in the meeting of the election committee.
Mr Patel said the BJS did not need to prove anything. The party had shown its strength by pushing the Congress in the third spot during Malehra by-polls.
Earlier, the BJS had not contested the Gwalior Lok Sabha and Udaypura assembly by-polls.
The by-election in Shivpuri constituency has been caused due to the resignation of BJP leader Yashodhara Raje Scindia, who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Gwalior constituency.
The Shivpuri by-election is scheduled on June 2.
He scotched up speculations about the BJS entering into an alliance with the Gondwana Ganatantra Party (GGP) saying no such decision has been taken so far.
The BJS leader added that the party intended to contest the elections on its own.
