AIADMK gives breach of privilege notice against Karunanidhi
Chennai, Apr 28 (UNI) The main opposition AIADMK in the Tamil Nadu assembly today gave notice for a breach of privilege against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and the party members staged a walk out from the House, when Speaker R Avudaiappan refused to take up the issue.
Soon after the Question Hour, Deputy leader of the opposition O Panneerselvam urged the Speaker to allow him to move the breach of privilege against the Chief Minister.
When the Speaker said it was under his consideration and the AIADMK leader could not raise the issue today, Mr Panneerselvam, accompanied by his colleagues staged a walkout.
Later, Mr Panneerselvam told newspersons that the party had given notice for a breach of privilege against Mr Karunanidhi for giving a false information to the House that a resolution was adopted at the all party meeting, convened by the government on April 15 on the Cauvery issue.
Reacting to the walk out, Mr Karunanidhi said after he suggested yesterday that the House revoke the suspension of four AIADMK MLAs after quoting late leader Anna ''let bygones be bygones'', he thought everything would become normal. ''But for being magnanimous towards the opposition, they have brought the privilege issue against me,'' he said.
When he was fighting for the rights and privileges of the members, the opposition AIADMK was bringing a breach of privilege against him and he would not be cowed down by such acts, Mr Karunanidhi said.
He said the AIADMK was trying to move the breach of privilege against him without prior notice. When the Speaker said he would allow them to raise the issue tomorrow, they staged a walk out, unwilling to face some issues in the House, he added.
