Workshop on cyber security to be held on May 4
Chandigarh, Apr 27: A workshop on 'Demystifying Hacking' is going will be organized on May 4 by the Cyber Security Research Centre at Punjab Engineering college here.
As a part of the outreach activities, the Research Centre has taken the initiative to promote cyber security awareness through the workshop.
This workshop shall be highly interactive, with demonstrations of hacking on test machine setups and some cases in real environments. The workshop will deal with not only understanding of the forensics tools, techniques, methodologies used by hackers but also providing the necessary countermeasures and cover various aspects of social engineering.
"With ever increasing and undeniable relevance of information security, this kind of workshop will certainly be an eye opener for all those who want to be a part of cyber security initiatives" Mr Manjit Brar, Director, Department of IT, Chandigarh Administration said here today.
He said that it was time to demystify security related activities. Dissemination of information related to cyber security should be done aggressively to increase community awareness of security technology, challenges and solutions, he added.
This workshop will focus on promoting cyber security awareness among the professionals. The participants will be from varies spheres such as students and faculty of engineering colleges, participants from IT industry and other organizations such as Intelligence Bureau, Police, defence etc.
Mr Kush Wadhwa, who is the invited speaker at the workshop has varied experience in the field of information security and digital forensics. He has carried out Penetration Tests, System and Server Audits, Intrusion Detection and handled many forensics cases.
Mr Wadhwa is currently serving as Information Security Analyst at Network Intelligence India (NII) Private Limited, focusing on penetration testing, digital forensics, intrusion detection and analysis and is at the forefront of the research activities that NII undertakes.
The Cyber Security Research Centre has been established in Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in collaboration with Chandigarh Administration and NASSCOM. As per the MOU signed by the three parties, the technical support is being provided by NASSCOM and the funding to the project has been provided by Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration.
