Storm causes damage in Tripura, rain fills up dried rivers
Agartala, Apr 27 (UNI) Nor'westers, accompanied by heavy rains that lash this hilly North Eastern state every day, damaged a number of security camps, power line and trees.
Power supply was disrupted, trees were uprooted, roads blocked and camps of security forces damaged in West and Dhalai districts yesterday when the storm struck twice--in the morning and night.
The affected areas in Dhalai district were Kamalpur, Ambassa and Longtharai valley sub-divisions where a number of security forces' camps were damaged.
The nor'wester also hit Khowai sub-division in West district and disrupted the power supply.
Supply from NEEPCO production centre at Ramchandra Nagar, about 25 km from here, was also hit as the 11 kv supply line up to Kumarghat in North district was damaged by the storm. Work for restoration of electricity in the affected areas was going on in full swing since yesterday.
Surface communication between Manu and Chamanu in Longtharai valley was also affected as the road was blocked due to felling of trees.
There was, however, no report of loss of life so far.
Till yesterday 437 mm rain was recorded this season, according to an official source.
The sky remained cloudy and more rain with storm was forecast for the next 24 hours. An upshot of the rain was that rivers and other water bodies which had dried up due to the drought-like situation, had filled up.
