LTTE naval wing behind killings of Indian fishermen: DGP
Chennai, Apr 27 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Police tonight said the 'Sea Tigers', the naval wing of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), was behind the killings of five Indian fishermen off the Kanyakumari coast on March 29.
Director General of Police D Mukherjee in an official release said the Tigers had shot the fishermen on suspicion that they were spying on their movements, while the LTTE men were engaged in ferrying arms and ammunition from one of their ships to the Sri Lankan coast.
The police chief also said it was the 'Sea Tigers', which had abducted 12 fishermen missing since March three, adding the fishermen were still in custody in one of the LTTE camps. The fishermen had ventured into the sea from Sakthikulangara of Kollam district in Kerala.
The disclosure comes in the wake of persistent attempts by political parties in the state to blame the Sri Lankan Navy for the indiscriminate firing on Indian fishermen, which had claimed several lives.
