Delhi Police given three months to probe anonymous allegations
New Delhi, Apr 27 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today granted time till July 27 to the Delhi Police to file a report on the allegations labelled in an anonymous letter to the presiding Judge of the Jessica Lal murder case on a nexus between the police, lawyers and a forensic expert leading to the acquittal of suspects in two separate cases.
Justice R S Sodhi asked the Special Investigative Team(SIT) of the Delhi Police to thoroughly probe matter to bring the culprits to the books.
The police in its report said that they have already retrieved the documents relating to the cases and probing the matter.
The trial court had allegedly acquitted the accused in the murder cases like in the Jessica Lal murder case due to the two gun theory propounded by the forensic expert in collusion with the advocates appearing for the accused.
Justice Sodhi had ordered the police to probe the allegations after he received an anonymous letter, detailing the three murder cases in which the trial court had acquitted the accused for lack of evidence.
Justice Sodhi had referred the matter to the original bench, comprising himself and Justice P K Bhasin, which had convicted Manu Sharma and his two accomplices, former Rajya Sabha member D P Yadav's son Vikas Yadav and corporate executive Amarjit Singh Gill in the murder case.
While Sharma was sentenced to life, the other two were jailed for four years.
